An Artist Sees Beauty In The Mundane

Bonjour!

An Artist Sees Beauty In The Mundane.

When you read this, how does it make you feel?

Do you agree?

As Photographers we are always observing.

Ce matin (This morning) I wanted to soak up some sun.

There’s an old crabapple tree with dried milkweed vines in my yard.

I noticed the contrast of the dried pods and the background of the blue sky.

The shapes and lines of the twisted vines.

The moment encouraged me to get my camera.

It’s the simple things that attract my eye.

As I was taking these photos I would think about how the photo would look best in color or black and white.

To consider, the placement of the subject within the frame, the angle (perspective) of the subject, the light and shadows.

Does the background contrast with the subject or is it harmonious?

What is the visual story I am wanting to tell?

Here I focused on the branch and let the white fluff of the seed pod frame it.

With these three photos I see beauty.

One a capture of contrast.

One a capture of simplicity.

One of poetic abstraction.

It’s not just about what you see, but HOW you see…
